Marketing and branding? Aren’t they the same thing?? 🤔
Not exactly!
👉 According to the American Marketing Association, BRANDING is “a name, term, design, symbol, or a combination of them, intended to identify the goods or services of one seller or group of sellers and to differentiate them from competitors.”
BRAND IDENTITY is very important. Keeping the look and feel of your brand consistent should be a priority in order to build brand recognition.
An example is FERRARI and their logo. They’ve kept it consistent through the years and today we recognize the brand just by that "wild" horse.
Once you’ve created solid branding, how do you get your brand out there?
📣 That’s where MARKETING comes in. Oxford Languages defines marketing as “the action or business of promoting and selling products or services, including market research and advertising.”
You need to create DEMAND for your product or service and having beautiful branding definitely helps!
🧠 Sometimes, branding can be used to generate awareness and notoriety without the expenses of a large-scale marketing campaign - as long as it connects with your audience. (Does anyone remember #Carlsberg “probably the best poster in the world” stunt last year?)
🥊 The two definitely overlap and one thing we know for sure is that using great branding together with a well-thought-out marketing plan can give any business a winning edge.
What’s your take on branding vs. marketing?
